Harpenden reach FA Vase third round for the first time
November 9
Harpenden Town won 4-2 at Rayleigh Town to reach the third round of the FA Vase for the first time in the club’s history. Danny Webb gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute of the game, which was played at Concord Rangers’ ground. Rayleigh equalised five minutes before half-time. However, Harry Andic restored the lead in injury time after a neat move and finish.
A few minutes after the break Webb struck again and then Eman Olajide saved a Rayleigh penalty to preserve the two-goal advantage. Rayleigh did pull a goal back in the 88th minute after being awarded a second spot kick. But rather than a nervy finish, Harps put the tie beyond reach when a Dave Keenleyside free-kick hit the bar and Elliot Bailey tucked home the rebound to wrap up a 4-2 win.
Harpenden had previously gone no further than the second round in the competition, in 1976-77 and 1981-82, losing to Tring Town and Grays Athletic respectively.
This season, Chalfont St Peter (4-0) and Fakenham Town (2-1) have been beaten on the way to round two and victory over Step 6 Rayleigh, who play in the Eastern Counties League Division One North creates a little bit of FA Vase history for the Harps.
The draw for round three will be made at FA headquarters on Monday (November 11) and the tie will be played on Saturday, December 7.

August 10 A battling 1-1 draw at London Lions was overshadowed by a bad injury to Andrew Simmons, who had started the season at right-back in fine form. He suffered a broken ankle and torn ligaments and required surgery. We wish Simmo all the best for a speedy recovery. Harps opened the scoring through Isaiah Hilaire and relied on Eman Olajide to make a number of top saves to preserve the lead. Lions struck back in the second half and the points were shared.
August 3 Midfield trio Ben Spaul, Kyle Rahho and Ryan Plowright scored the goals to see off Halstead Town 3-1 in the FA Cup extra-preliminary round and set up a home tie against FC Romania.
We welcomed Charlee Yearwood, Mario Stavrou and George Andreou to the club and Fynn Sweeting made the step up to the first team from the U18s. Yearwood moved on quickly, to Cranfield United.
Reece Crowter left the club to join Potton United, we wish him the best of luck at his new club.
July
Our season began with a defeat, we were knocked out of the Herts Charity Shield by Wormley Rovers losing 3-2. Four days later we traveled to Shefford Town & Campton for the opening day of the league season and we took all three points as we came from 1-0 down to win 3-2 thanks to a Harry Andic brace and a header from Archie Locke. Three days later we hosted Wormley Rovers and despite a dominant performance we couldn’t take our chances and drew 0-0.
